Change Size of Taskbar Icons

Change Size of Taskbar Icons

The Windows 11 taskbar is the row of icons that you see at the bottom of your screen - it contains the start button as well as any pinned or active applications. If you've got a large monitor or want to make the icons easier to click, it's possible to make this bar and icons larger. Likewise, if you want to maximise desktop space, you can make them smaller.

It is currently not possible to use the Windows settings panel to adjust this setting, you will need to edit the registry to make this change. You should only perform this if you are aware of what this involves, as it is not a task for beginners.

To use our registry modification files:

  1. Download the attached .zip file.
  2. Extract the files to a folder.
  3. Look at the filename for the small, medium and large indicators.
  4. Run the .reg file that corresponds to the taskbar size you would like.
  5. Accept the warning for running a .reg file (I suggest you never run a .reg file without inspecting the contents).
  6. Reboot the computer once the registry modification is complete.
To manually modify the registry:

  1. Run "regedit"
  2. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
  3. Click New > DWORD (32-bit) Value
  4. Rename the new DWORD to "TaskbarSi"
  5. Edit the Value Data (hexadecimal) to 0 (for small), 1 (for medium/default) or 2 (for large)
