Teams is an integral part of Windows, but many don’t know how to update Microsoft Teams, so in today’s guide, we’re going to show you how to do that.
How do I update Microsoft Teams in Windows 11?
1. Install and Set Up Microsoft Teams on Windows 11
- Download Microsoft Teams: Open your web browser and go to the official Microsoft Teams website. Click on the download button to get the installer.
- Install Microsoft Teams: Once the download is complete, open the installer file and follow the on-screen instructions to install Microsoft Teams.
- Sign In: After installation, open Microsoft Teams from your Start menu. Sign in using your Microsoft account credentials.
- Access Teams from Taskbar: Click the Chat icon on the Windows taskbar or use the shortcut WIN + C. This opens the Teams flyout where you can see recent chats and start new ones.
- Start a Chat or Meeting: Click on Meet or Chat to begin a conversation or start a meeting.
2. Update Microsoft Teams and Its Apps
- Open Teams: Launch Microsoft Teams from your desktop or Start menu.
- Manage Apps: On the left side of the Teams interface, click on Apps.
- Check for Updates: Look for a red bubble next to Manage your apps indicating available updates. Click it.
- Update Apps: On the Manage your apps page, click Update next to each app requiring an update.
- Review Permissions: A dialog box will open with the app details and a What’s new tab. Review and accept any new permissions.
- Confirm Update: Click Update now to complete the update process.
3. Reinstall the app
- Press the Windows key + X and choose Apps and features.
- Locate Microsoft Teams, click the three dots next to it, and choose Uninstall.
- Next, open the Microsoft Store.
- Search for teams and select Microsoft Teams.
- Click on Install.
4. Use SMS in Teams
- Link Android Phone: Open Microsoft Teams on your Windows PC. Go to Settings and link your Android phone to Teams.
- Send and Receive SMS: Once linked, you can send and receive text messages directly from the Teams interface without picking up your phone.
- Share Video Call Links: From the SMS interface in Teams, you can easily send video call links, allowing recipients to join calls even if they don’t use Teams.
5. Use the Teams Play Together Widget for Gaming
- Open Game Bar: Press Windows + G to open the Game Bar.
- Add Teams Widget: Click on the widget menu and add the Teams Play Together widget.
- Overlay Video Calls: Use the widget to overlay video calls on top of your game, allowing you to see your friends while you play.
- Share Gameplay: Share your screen or gameplay through the widget so your friends can watch and react in real time.
6. Organize and Participate in Communities
- Create a Community: Open Microsoft Teams and navigate to the Communities section. Click on Create a Community and fill in the necessary details like name and description.
- Use Channels: Create channels within your Community to organize discussions by topics. For example, if you have a music Community, you might create separate channels for different genres.
- Manage Notifications: Customize your notification settings to receive alerts for all posts, just the latest ones, or mute the Community while still getting notifications for direct replies.
- Share Events: Create events within your Community and share them using links or QR codes to invite non-members.
7. Use the Updates App in Microsoft Teams
- Access Updates App: Find the Updates app on the left sidebar in Teams. If it's not visible, click on + Apps and search for Updates.
- Request an Update: In the Updates app, click on Request an update and choose a template or start from scratch. Fill in the details and assign recipients.
- Manage Requests: Edit or disable requests as needed by going to My requests and using the options under Actions.
- Submit an Update: If assigned an update request, go to the Submit tab, fill in the necessary information, and click Submit.
- View Updates: As a Viewer, check the Review tab to see updates and submissions from others.
