Yep, if you go to Settings > System > Display, you may have a brightness slider if your display supports it (most laptops will for example). If you're on a desktop, it may not be possible to alter display brightness from within Windows.
Yes your solution works but an instantly available slider would be better. At present my Microsoft Surface Book 3 has button steps that are far to coarse making just too bright or too dull when I'm in a long editing session.
