Couldn’t find a fingerprint scanner compatible with Windows Hello error on Gateway laptop

My fingerprint scanner stopped working a few days ago, and the error message reads: "We couldn't find a fingerprint scanner compatible with Windows Hello fingerprint." I checked the Device Manager and saw that the Biometrics device is missing.

How can I get the scanner working again?
