I wish to begin by saying if someone else had posted a thread similar to mine I sincerely apologize – I did not know. Also, if anyone disagrees or has a difference of opinions I respect you & I could only ask the same in return. I suppose this post is partially asking a question & partially seeing how many people might agree or disagree with me. For those people who disagree with me, I gladly welcome to hear your comments or rather your reasons why you wouldn’t want File Explorer to have tabs. Just to be clear here, when I’m talking about File Explorer with tabs (or also referred to as “sets”) very much similar to web browsers like Google Chrome & Microsoft Edge.
I first saw tabs being introduced into File Explorer back in March of this year; much before I knew anything about a new Windows 11 OS in the workings. Shortly after March 2021 Feature Update, I researched out what Microsoft had in mind for the next Feature Update which I thought was scheduled for October 2021. I supposed with the official release of Windows 11 may have changed things around. I’m not even sure if Microsoft intends on doing Feature Updates with Windows 10? It’s sort of irrelevant to me because my PC is Windows 11 compatible & I intend to update to Windows 11 within the next day or two.
Anyway, like I said when I saw a video demonstrating File Explorer with tabs I got really excited & almost couldn’t wait for the Fall to come. Meanwhile, Windows 11 pops up & immediately wondered (& sort of assumed) Microsoft would continue with their plans with File Explorer & adding tabs. In my early research on Windows 11, I found conflicting reports on if File Explorer was going to have tabs or not. However, I now know for a fact that File Explorer DOES NOT have tabs. I am very curious as to why Microsoft changed its minds regarding adding tabs to File Explorer. Was it because of a lack of demands from people or was it a conflict with the Operating System or something else? I had to ask even though I don’t believe I’ll get Microsoft’s real reason. I have always been one who frankly doesn’t believe in giving Microsoft feedback. Right or wrong, I just feel it would be a total waste of my time.
Yes, I do realize that there is a slue of third-party apps that will add tabs to File Explorer. I did try 2-third-party apps. One from the Microsoft Store called, “Files.” I didn’t particularly care for that app because A) it wasn’t condensed like the original File Explorer & B) I think on the left panel it didn’t really show you all of the folders & sub-folders again like File Explorer. Although one feature I did like with the Files app besides the tabs, if you right-click on any folder you could assign the folder a label or change the color of the folder. However, I already have a third-party app, “Folder Marker Pro” which works really well for me. Now, after I update to Windows 11 it might be a different story. The second app I tried was called, “Clover” which was a little better, but when I downloaded it was all in Chinese. I didn’t feel comfortable having that app on my PC so I quickly uninstalled both apps. As I’m typing out this thread I came upon a website with four or five more File Explorer apps with tabs. My problem is, (& yes I know that I’m being a bone-head) I hate to downloading another File Explorer app, yet that’s the only way I’m going to be able to have tabs with a File Explorer. Yes, sometimes I do need to transferred folders & files; I do understand that some people like having 2 or 3 separate File Explorer windows open at a time Personally me, I much rather have the tabs in my File Explorer.
Maybe those who are already using Windows 11 & are using a third-party app with a File Explorer that has tabs can offer me some recommendations & suggestions? Does anybody use an app called, StarDoc Group? I would greatly appreciate that very much!!! ?
