I want to add more SSDs to my HP 15-dk1008ca laptop, but the videos and online manual I found show different setups from my laptop. All the videos I've seen include an HDD, and I don't want to open my laptop in case I break something. How can I check how many SSD slots I have without opening my laptop?

SSD is the type of drive [Solid State Drive], HDD is the one with spinning platters in it [Hard Disk Drive]. SATA is the usual slot/socket for plugging drives into on Notebooks and use a cable on Desktops. Until recently the Notebooks had the 2.5" drive, either HDD or SSD, newer ones take NVMe M.2 drives. Looking at this HP site https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/details/hp/35610567 requires the serial number to get more information but generally Notebooks have only one drive. I got an HP back in Dec. with Win11 Home and Microsoft 365, a cheap-o and it has a drive soldered onto the motherboard that can't be changed.

I have a Envy 17T-cr0000 which has only ONE NVMe slot. However instead the standard 512GB NVMe, I have removed that one and replaced it with a 2TB NVMe, which gives me plenty of room for my files (Windows 11 partition is only 200GB, the rest is Data storage (about 1600GB).
My old laptop had room for two SSD's, however only one was occupied. I have to buy an SSD cable to make the second work (on a 14 year old computer I think it is a waste of money)

I looked up your laptop on the web. Which is what you should do. There are several locations that give information about it.
From what I can see, your laptop contains ONE SSD. That means that you Cannot add any more drives.
However you CAN use an external, USB drive, or a USB HD Dock, where you can just drop in the drive of your choice.

I have both, and have used both, and it's a good way to add extra storage to any Laptop.

There are, however, laptops, of the HIGH END variety that come with TWO HD's installed. But never more than TWO.

Remember, , , when in doubt, "Google it!"
