I had this problem, so I want to share this. After removing malware from your external storage, you may find your files missing. Malware often hides files in a new folder and creates a shortcut with an external drive icon. To fix this, update your anti-malware software, scan the storage, and show hidden files in File Explorer. Move your files from the hidden folder to the main one, delete the hidden folder and any fake USB drive shortcuts, and then hide hidden files again in File Explorer.
