I have a new laptop, a Dell Alienware m18 R2 with Windows 11 pro named "LAPTOP3".
I also have the following:
Home built desktop with Windows 10 pro named "desktop".
Lenovo laptop with Windows 10 pro named "LAPTOP1".
Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 10 pro named "LAPTOP2".
I have a wifi modem router. Desktop is connected to it via a network cable.
The others are connected via wifi.
Desktop, LAPTOP1 and LAPTOP2 can all see each other and LAPTOP3 and can access each other's and LAPTOP3's files.
LAPTOP3 can see desktop, LAPTOP1 and LAPTOP2, ie I can get them to appear under "Network" in File explorer.
However clicking on any of the icons produces the message "Windows cannot access <computer name>".
The error code is 0x80070035.
I have gone through a heap of web sites looking for answers but none of them have worked.
I am beginning to wonder if I have set a terrible trap for myself. I don't know if the following is
relevant but here it is.
On first turning on what became named as LAPTOP3 I had to create a user (of course). In the past with
Windows 10 I have managed to avoid having anything to do with a MS account by turning off the modem router
just before that part of the setup, and this produced a skip button which allowed a setup without a MS account
or user password. Desktop, LAPTOP1 and LAPTOP2 start without requiring a password.
When I set up LAPTOP3 I wasn't able to do the Windows 10 trick and had to set up a MS account and finished
up starting LAPTOP3 using a PIN. I was outraged by the bombardment of MS advertising all over LAPTOP3.
Also I found that my user folder was named using the first 5 letters of my email address.
To try to work around this insult I created a new administrative user with my first name. When it got
to the password bit I just clicked "next" (or whatever) and it created the new user without a password.
I then restarted LAPTOP3 logging on with the new user and deleted the original user.
Thenceforth LAPTOP3 started just like the others, no interference from me required.
I don't know if the above has anything to do with my troubles but I'm sure there are lots of you who will.
Also I should say that I can access and use my printer. I installed it on LAPTOP3 using the printer
installation software and following its instructions. The printer is connected directly to the
modem router via a network cable.
Please 11Forums could someone tell me what to do to fix this issue.
