Out of the blue, I got a notification from RAV Endpoint Protection. I looked into it and signed up because Norton is getting ridiculously expensive. However, after seeing some discussions, I am unsure if it is a legitimate antivirus protection or a scam pretending to be software. I have only paid for a quarter and used PayPal. I like the program if it does what it says it does.

My concern is that it might collect my data and give it to scammers under the pretense of being an antivirus alternative to Norton 360. Can anyone please advise precisely what this is?

It's wise to be cautious with unfamiliar software. RAV Endpoint Protection isn't as well-known as Norton, and there have been mixed reviews about its legitimacy. First, check if the software has a legitimate website and verified reviews. Look for any mentions on reputable cybersecurity forums or sites. You can also run a thorough scan with another trusted antivirus to see if it flags RAV Endpoint Protection as malicious.

If you didn't install RAV Endpoint Protection, it's recommended for you to uninstall it and I know where did the RAV thing came from. Next time when you install anysoftware always see the setup screen carefully and DO NOT simply click AGREE, OK, CONTINUE and YES. This is because some software if by default allows sponsored softwares / tools to be installed.

Yes, you should check the permissions RAV Endpoint Protection is asking for. If it seems overly invasive, that’s a red flag. You can also reach out to PayPal to dispute the charge if you believe it’s a scam. Keep an eye on your account activity for any unusual behavior and consider running a scan with a well-known antivirus to check for malware.

I had a similar situation with another antivirus. First, make sure you download RAV Endpoint Protection from the official website. Check reviews on reputable sites and see what the cybersecurity community says. If you’re still unsure, use trusted antivirus software to scan your system for any threats. If RAV turns out to be a scam, report it and consider switching back to a more reliable option.
