For the past 4 months every update that microsoft installs i have to uninstall it. All i get after the install is the desktop screen flashing on and off. I have tried startup repair but nogo.

I'd do 2 things, first would be sfc /scannow as administrator and second, if problems are shown not repaired use DISM to repair. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=windows+11+dism&t=ffab&ia=web
If neither work maybe a Repair install of Windows, at worst would be a clean install but would lose programs and data. Be sure to have a backup copy of any data you don't want to lose, anything that exists nowhere else.

Also, not knowing about the computer, is there sufficient unused space on the drive? Probably best to have more than 20GB available, I maintain at least 20% free space on my drives.

Step one, for me, would be to back up all your data files to an external drive, either a Flash Drive or External HD.
Step two, also for me, would be to permanently disable MS Updates.
As a working PC tech, I found MS Updates to be extremely troublesome, sometimes Disastrous!

Personally, as soon as I install either Windows 10 or Windows 11, I install a program called, "StopUpdates10.exe".
It allows me to STOP all updates, and then if I ever want to, Turn them back ON again.

Nice little program, and it's FREE.

Good Luck

PS: If you've not turned System Restore OFF, then run it to go back to a time before you got the bad update.
