I have two computers (a PC and a laptop) both running Windows 11 Pro 23H2. Today, when I booted up my laptop for the first time in a week, the weather widget had moved from its previous leftmost position to the far right. However, on my PC, the widget remains on the left, where I prefer it. This has happened before, but last time it was my PC where the widget moved to the right, while the laptop's widget stayed on the left.

Previously, I restored my PC using a recent total system backup, which moved the widget back to the leftmost position and kept it there. Now, the same issue has occurred on my laptop. I'm currently restoring it from a backup from last week. If the widget returns to the left, how can I ensure it stays there?

This is a known issue with the latest Windows update. Microsoft has changed how the taskbar handles widgets and it seems to be causing some unpredictable behavior. Restoring from a backup is a temporary fix, but it’s not a permanent solution since the issue might reoccur with future updates. One workaround that has worked for some users is to manually reposition the widget. Right-click on the taskbar, select "Taskbar settings," then disable and re-enable the widgets. This can sometimes reset their positions. Give it a try, and let us know if it helps!

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried the taskbar settings method first. Unfortunately, disabling and re-enabling the widgets didn’t work for me.

Also consider that Windows syncs certain settings across devices that use the same Microsoft account, which might be causing the widget to move. You can check and manage these settings by going to Settings > Accounts > Sync your settings.
Disable the "Theme" sync and see if that prevents the widget from moving around. It’s a bit of a long shot, but worth trying if the other methods don’t work. Let us know how it goes!
