Hi,

Got a new Windows 11 Laptop which has only Wi-Fi connectivity (no wired connector).

Keep getting the following error:- “This Wifi network uses an old security standard that's being phased out. We recommend connecting to a different network”.

After a period of use the Wi-Fi stops working and can only be made to work again by using a system restore to an earlier time when it was working.

Don’t want to change my router – I have other Wi-Fi devices on the network that will not work with the more secure standard.

Is there a way to stop Windows 11 from disabling my use of the old Wi-Fi security standard, such as a change in Registry for example ?

Don’t see why Microsoft should be able to say I can’t use whatever Wi-Fi standard that I want to use – it’s nothing to do with them.

Regards,

Nick.

It looks like you do not have much of a choice. Only thing I can think of right now is to hardware your laptop with an ethernet cable.
There are adapters available that can connect the ethernet to a usb port (I am using one of those for a long time):

Might be something to consider

What encryption protocol are you using currently? is it WPA2 or WPA3 .. if WPA3 try make another individual connection only for the laptop using lower encryption protocol eg. WPA2 or WPA-PSK (WEP is not recommended), this can be assigned alone for the laptop without interupting other connected devices ..

WPA3 is very much recommended ..

My old laptop is currently connected to WPA2-PSK without any error evenm my router supports WPA3;
