Wireless Headphones Connection

Using pair of wireless ear buds and when the computer my laptop turns off or goes into standby the headphones disconnect but bluetooth settings say they are connected but the audio comes out of my laptop and i cannot disconnect from them, the only way i have found to sort this is removing the headphones and searching for them again

any help?, thanks
